Not christened in Great Stanmore according to the 1992 version of the IGI. The marriage date in London seems to be right on target, and the births of the children include James Robert Ely. Except for the christening of the first child, "Jane Elly", the familiar spelling of "Ely" is used. Jane and George are listed together in the 1861 census.

Great Stanmore was a parish of 1,441 a. in 1841. It was roughly the shape of an elongated rectangle, running from north-north-west to south-south-east, and the village at its centre lay some 10 miles from London. Stanmore was divided before the Conquest into estates foreshadowing the later parishes of Great and Little Stanmore, although the name of Great Stanmore does not occur until 1354. Throughout its history the main settlement, to which there was no equivalent in Little Stanmore, was often called merely Stanmore, as were the old village and its surrounding district in 1971.

The 1992 version of IGI does not give her christening in Great Stanmore, nor any other area with certainty.
*** We need her birthdate and place from the census to be sure of finding the right Ann Herrick. The closest matches at present are:
1. Hannah Herrick, daughter of Thomas Herrick and Catherine. c. 15 June 1783, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster, London, Middlesex, England
2. Ann Herrick, daughter of John Herrick and Phebe, c. 28 Feb 1793, North Clifton, Nottingham, England
3. Anne Herrick, daughter of Thomas Bousield Herrick and Anne Moore, b. 1796, Mallow, Cork, Ireland.
4. Ann Herrick, daughter of George Herrick and Elizabeth, c. 3 Mar 1799, Willoughton, Lincoln, England.
*** Perhaps check for other children of these parents and whether any of them appear to have married in the London area.I think this may be Ann in 1871.

The IGI gives ELLY as the spelling for Jane, but Ely for all the other children of James Robert Ely and Ann Herrick born in Great Stanmore. Perhaps the family had just moved there and were not yet known. Ely is the spelling used by relatives.

Fred served in the Fire Service during the war, putting out fires caused by the bombardment.
Fred claimed to be descended from Tom Rolfe, the son of Captain John Rolfe and Pocahontas. Jessie felt that Fred, and Tony's children did look like North American Indians. Fred had a gift for painting. At one time a wealthy man, he suffered business reversals and died deeply in debt. After his death, Violet and Maureen's family wound up the business and moved to the Bodmin Moor in Cornwall.
